When you enable the DSR or VSR, GPU then basically dodge the game and makes it believe that it is a 4k monitor instead of 1080p. Then the exciting part comes, it will show you the 4k images and the process is done by supersampling algorithms.
Now we know supersampling works very well, but on the other side if you consider the methods like Morphological Anti-Aliasing or FXAA, definitely then it will affect your performance which will be noticeable. The images that are downscaled are more detailed ones in comparison to the native resolution images. So, while you are not getting any loss in detail, you should just apply anti-aliasing to it. One more thing of consideration, do not only focus on GPU but also to make sure that the game which you are into, should support higher resolutions if they are not able to then you may require a patch to get a higher resolution for it. Enable VSR on AMD cardholders
1. First, open the AMD Radeon control panel, by right-clicking on your desktop.
2. Now, in the Display tab, go to the display options menu.
3. There you will see the VSR option, just turn it on (enable it).
You are almost done with it, now you will get more resolution options. Just go under the gaming video setting and select the desired one. However, at 4k it will be definitely downscale the image to native resolution, but you will get the more perfect and best result as compared to 1080p.

Enable DSR on Nvidia cardholders
1. First, right-click on the desktop and then open the Nvidia control panel.
2. Under the 3D setting, click on manage 3D settings.
3. You will see the Global setting, click the DSR factor in it.
4. Now set the DSR factor from 1.00x to 4.00x native resolution by check-marking it.
5. Then Go to DSR smoothness, and set it to 10 or 20 %. You can further change it as per your requirement.
What Is DSR? For supersample, the amount of multiplication of images is known as DSR. Let’s say 4X, here 4x means the 4 times multiply the native resolution. At the same time, it is simple and tricky.
Let’s suppose you are selecting a 4k resolution that is considered higher, so automatically your game will run on 4k, but the GPU will perform downscale so that it can match the resolution of your monitor. Now, the best thing is, to check the difference in image quality. The supersampled one will be far better than 1080p.
