What is Refresh Rate?
In the simplest words, the number of times an image refreshes your screen per sec is known as the refresh rate. You will get many options in it like 60Hz, 75Hz and 144Hz, and many more. One more thing, these options are not independent, they mostly depend on your GPU whether it supports it or not.
If your GPU can handle 75Hz then you are good to go with it and if not then you probably should get a better GPU instead.

Is 75Hz Good For Gaming?
You cannot say that Refresh rate is the only important feature. There are many more, but yes, refresh rate has a great effect on your gaming performance. Here we are talking about 75Hz, What do you mean by 75Hz refresh rate? The simplest answer for that, your image is updated 75 times per sec, which is good for any gaming monitor.
The higher the refresh rate, the best image quality you will get with less lagging along with faster response time. Basically, they are all interlinked with each other, one can affect the other.
Basically, 75Hz is enough for gaming, The higher refresh rates are the more luxurious, not essential. In my opinion, if 75 is good enough, and you are still going for 144Hz, then you probably have the extra budget.
I am not only talking about pro gamers, as if you are a newbie you cannot differentiate between the higher and the lower refresh rate, so 75Hz is also good for them.
Why do I always recommend the 75HZ for gamers? It is because it gives you decent video quality, and it reduces eyestrain, but one important thing is that it is way too affordable. If you compare 75Hz with 144Hz, then obviously the 144Hz result will be better as it is a high refresh rate but not budget friendly.

If we compare 75Hz and 144Hz refresh rates, then we should keep in mind that there is a lot of difference in the price range as 144hz is more expensive, but there is a reason for that. As 144hz is for competitive gamers because it gives a better gaming experience than 75Hz.
If we go into its technical details, then you probably know that 144Hz monitors refresh their screen 144 times per sec, and on the other hand, 75Hz refreshes 75 times. So just see the difference as 144Hz can draw 144 frames for each sec and 75Hz can draw 75 frames each sec, Here one thing is pretty much clear 144Hz gives 69 more frames as compared to 75Hz per sec.
75hz is pocket friendly, as it gives decent results, and you can play games easily on it without facing any lagging issues.

What About Frames Per Second?
FPS is, basically, how much the highest number of frames can a system produces. At this point, you already know that refresh rate is the feature of a monitor and on the other side, the Frame rate is the capability of a GPU to produce output. So, now you need to know that both features cannot affect one another it is because they belong to different hardware.
But there is more to it!
Let’s say if your monitor has a 75Hz refresh rate and your system outputs 144 FPS, which is higher than the monitor’s refresh rate, then your monitor can only show 75 images per sec. This is the reason you should get the same refresh rate and FPS if you want the best results.
One more example just so you get the point if I have 60Hz of HDMI and my monitor is 75Hz then in this case I will only get 60Hz. And here the solution is that I should change the port (display port) with a higher refresh rate to get the full advantage of it.
The main reason for screen tearing is the same, as both frame rate and refresh are different they cause a glitch, we called it a screen tearing or image Sutter.
How To Determine Your GPU’s FPS?
The Job will be easy if you know, how many frames your GPU can render per second. It will help you to get the monitor you need. Let’s put it this way, your GPU can produce 60 frames per sec and there is no point to get a 144hz monitor as it will be a waste of money.
There are many ways to determine your GPU’s frame rate:
Usually, game launch platforms have their own frame rate counter feature.
- First, go to the setting of steam.
- Find “In-Game” and select it
- Then, after that, select “IN-Game FPS Counter”.
- Select the location from the menu and turn the option ON.
By following these steps you can see the number of frames per second, on the left top corner.
Ubisoft also has a built-in FPS counter.
Here, you have a switch that allows you to on/off the fps counter. The main purpose of the switch is so that you cannot be distracted by the numbers while you are playing the game.
- Go to settings.
- There you will see “General”, and open the tick.
You will get the option there, “Display FPS counter in-game”. Exactly like steam, you will see the fps counter in the top left corner.
When To Upgrade To A Higher Refresh Rate?
I have listed some cases, where you have to upgrade your Refresh Rate.
- If you are playing to get a new high-end computer just so that you can invest in future technology.
- You are playing a multiplayer game, and you want to take an advantage over the other people.
- You want more smoothness in your games by spending some extra dollars.
- Your GPU has a higher FPS than your monitor’s refresh rate.
Now, here one more question arises, should we upgrade to 144hz or 240Hz! In fact, as per professional gamers, you cannot notice a big difference between 144Hz and 240hz. Yeah, you may feel a change and smoothness when you are upgrading from 75Hz to 144Hz.
For me, both 144hz and 244hz come in the elite section, as you will notice the lag is almost negligible, and you will get the best real-life video quality along with crisp images. But you have to keep in mind that going for 240Hz may cost you many dollars.
Overclocking Your Monitor To A Higher Refresh Rate
Overclock basically helps you to increase the refresh rate on your monitor, For instant, your monitor has a 75Hz refresh rate here overclock will simply increase your hertz. But one more thing, the max refresh rate you will get, depends hardly on your monitor.
Some of them easily overclock from 65hz to 75Hz very easily but not all of them. While doing this kind of stuff plz keep in mind that don’t push the limits of your monitor as it will affect its lifespan.

2. Nvidia Control Panel
CRU (Custom Resolution Utility) is the oldest overclocking method that works brilliantly to this date. One more thing that you should know, CRU works fine with AMD graphics but not with Integrated Intel graphics or GPUs. If you are using as a third party for overlocking then do follow these steps which are listed below.
STEP 1: First Lauch the software(CRU).
STEP 2: In tool’s interface you will see two screens, Detailed Resolutions, and Standard Resolutions.
STEP 3: You have to select Detailed Resolutions and Add it.
STEP 4: Click the Timing dropdown and choose LCD standard.
STEP 5: NOw, under the Frequency select the refresh rate value more than your monitor standard, for example, if it is 60Hz make it 65Hz if it is good enough then select OK, and if it is not enough then do increase more. When you are done with it, just restart your computer.
Nvidia Control Panel
For those who are using Nvidia GeForce Graphics, you just have to follow the steps for overlocking:
STEP 1: Make sure you are on desktop. Now right on the screen and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
STEP 2: The window of the Nvidia Control panel will appear, see the panel on the left and under the Display select Change Resolution. Drop down with the name of Create Custom Resolution will appear.
STEP 3: Now. you have to create your custom refresh rate and keep on adjusting the refresh rate until you get the best one for your gaming monitor. When it’s done and overlocked successfully then make sure to save the setting, let’s restart your computer as it is essential.
STEP 4: At the End, you have to make sure the refresh rate on windows matches the Nvidia Control Panel. It is easy to check just go to Windows Display Settings. Then to Advance Display Settings> Display Adapter Properties>Monitor Tab.
